Simonetta Vespucci

"At her funeral, her face was uncovered so that all might see her beauty, which was even greater in death than it had been in life". Sforza Bettini, government minister.

Simonetta Vespucci was considered to be the most beautiful woman in Florence, perhaps in all of Italy. Hers was the face that served as Muse for many fantastic known works, and many we'll never know or see.

It is said that every man in Florence was in love with her, and in her short life her beauty made her truly immortal.
La Bella Simonetta married into the prominent Vespucci family and moved to Florence in 1474 at around age 15. Botticelli discovered her and became essentially obsessed with painting her. Among painters, poets, and composers she developed an almost cult-like following, both during her lifetime and after her death.

Simonetta !
Love discovered me all weaponless,
and opened the way to the heart through the eyes,
which are made the passageways and doors of tears...
